“Lotiz” studied Painting and Scupture at the acclaimed college of art: “Escola Paulista de Belas Artes”. After graduating she became the apprentice of Gino Colognesi. Shortly after Lotiz had her first exhibition. Her exhibitions in Brazil continued and her art works ascended and she was awarded prizes between 1954 and 1957.
She later studied and staged exhibitions in Italy, France, Spain, England, Switzerland, USA, Peru and Portugal. Her art and knowledge were requested in private and public executions throughout the world. Between 1962 and 1968 special acknowledgement came from her exhibitions in São Paulo at art galleries such as “Da Vinci”, “O Solar”, “H. Stern”, “Lehman” and “KLM” where her pieces were purchased for acclaimed art collections in Brazil and abroad.
“Lotiz” Her pieces can be seen throughout Brazil and Europe to this day. Her famous bronze sculpture of, and as requested by the Futebol artist “Pelé”, is displayed at the Afro-Brasil Museu in Ibiraquera Parque in São Paulo, SP, Brazil.
On February 20, 1929 “Lotiz” was born Lea Castello in Rio De Janeiro. She married Willison Norman Barnett in Baltimore, MD, U.S.A. in 1952. Lotiz and Norman had two children, Maria Angelica Castello Barnett and Willison Norman Barnett Jr. “Lotiz” passed away on February 22, 2003 in São Paulo, SP, and is remembered among the Brazilian community as a great supporter of arts and culture.
